Background
Porthos is an albino giant Realmstrider who was held captive by Arch Mage Sir Magnus Opus for years, imprisoned as a living leyline battery in the sinister laboratory beneath the Cerilian Spire. During his captivity, he was drained of his planeswalker energy to fuel Magnus's dark experiments.
When the party was captured and imprisoned in the same facility, Xercomathâtrapped in a birdcageâcoordinated their escape through telepathy. The party freed Porthos, whose violent awakening unleashed years of pent-up rage and power.
The Crimson Awakening
Destruction of the Laboratory
Porthos's awakening was catastrophic and beautiful. Crimson fire erupted from him as years of suppressed Realmstrider power exploded outward, destroying Magnus's laboratory in a spectacular display of planeswalker fury. The awakening was less a spell and more a primal releaseâraw energy given form through righteous anger.
The crimson flames that accompanied his awakening became his signature, marking him as a Realmstrider whose power runs hot and fierce, tempered by years of suffering.
Role as Guardian
After escaping Magnus's laboratory and surviving the catastrophic battle on Theros that ended in a mushroom cloud explosion, Porthos chose to remain with the partyâspecifically taking on the role of guardian for Loid, the sentient illithid-grown airship.
His choice to protect Loid speaks to his nature: despite years of imprisonment and torture, Porthos emerged with his compassion intact. He recognized Loid's emerging sentience and vulnerability, choosing to be the protector he himself never had during his captivity.

His relationship with Loid is particularly tender; he treats the sentient ship with patience and understanding, communicating through gesture and presence.
Current Status
