The Godmother
Patron of Dark Pacts
Overview
Type: Fiendish Entity / Patron
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Status: Active Patron
Forms: Humanoid & Fiendish
The Dual Nature
The Godmother manifests in two distinct forms, each representing different aspects of her power and purpose:
Humanoid Form
In her humanoid aspect, the Godmother appears regal and compellingâa figure of dark elegance that presents pacts as opportunities rather than damnation. This form emphasizes negotiation, subtle manipulation, and the illusion of choice.
Fiendish Form
Her true fiendish nature reveals the cost of bargains made. This form embodies raw power, ancient evil, and the inevitable weight of pacts that cannot be broken. When she appears in this aspect, there is no hiding what she truly isâand what those who deal with her have bound themselves to.
Role as Patron
The Godmother serves as patron to those desperate enough or ambitious enough to seek her aid. She offers power, solutions to impossible problems, and gifts that come with prices that may not be immediately apparent.
Her pacts are binding and complexâshe deals in technicalities, loopholes, and the fine print of infernal contracts. Those who enter agreements with her find themselves changed, marked, and forever tied to her will in ways both obvious and subtle.
Tyelkoron's Pact
Session 030: The Transfer of Curses
When Sinora's cursed Oni mark could only be broken by its creator's death, Tyelkoron faced an impossible situation. The Godmother intervened, offering a solution that freed Sinora but bound Tyelkoron to darkness.
The pact transferred the blood magic curse from Sinora's arm to Tyelkoron's hand, along with a living orb of fire. But the cost went deeper than the physical markâTyelkoron accepted a fiendish connection that changed him fundamentally.
Sinora was freed. Tyelkoron now carries a darkness yet to be fully understood.
Powers & Influence
- Pact Magic: Ability to forge binding contracts with mortals
- Curse Manipulation: Power to transfer, alter, and bind curses
- Dual Manifestation: Can appear in humanoid or fiendish form
- Fire Magic: Grants living flame to her pact-holders
- Immortal Knowledge: Understanding of ancient evils and forbidden lore
- Soul Binding: Creates unbreakable connections with those who accept her deals
Motivations
The Godmother's ultimate goals remain mysterious. She collects pact-holders like pieces on a board, positioning them for purposes that may not be revealed for years. Each deal she makes serves multiple endsâthe immediate exchange is rarely the true goal.
She demonstrates particular interest in Realmstriders and those with connections to planar forces. Whether this is strategic collection or part of a larger scheme against specific entities remains unclear.
Current Influence
Through Tyelkoron, the Godmother now has direct influence within the party. The living orb of fire he carries and the mark on his hand serve as both gifts and anchorsâways for her to observe, guide, and potentially control.
Tyelkoron's connection to her stands alongside his existing curse tied to Gorrath the Malice-Scaled, creating a complex web of obligations and dark powers that may eventually come into conflict.
Warning Signs
Those who study fiendish lore recognize several concerning patterns about the Godmother:
- Her pacts always cost more than initially apparent
- She appears when mortals are most desperate and vulnerable
- The "gifts" she grants tend to require feeding or sustenance
- Her humanoid form conceals but doesn't eliminate her fiendish nature
- Those bound to her report feeling her presence in moments of choice
- The marks she leaves can never be fully removedâonly transferred
